J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival has announced its return in 2023, along with its strongest lineup yet. The festival will take place on April 1 and 2 at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, North Carolina, and has been dubbed the “hardest festival lineup ever” by Cole himself. Saturday’s lineup includes Usher, Ari Lennox, Lil Durk, City Girls, Sean Paul, Jessie Reyez, EarthGang, and more. Sunday’s headliners will be J. Cole and Drake, performing together for the first time ever, along with Burna Boy, GloRilla, J.I.D, Summer Walker, Bas, and Waka Flocka Flame.
The Dreamville Festival, which was originally planned for 2018 but was canceled due to Hurricane Florence, has only taken place three times. Tickets are available for purchase on the official Dreamville Festival website.
In 2020 and 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic also disrupted the festival. However, in 2022, the festival made a comeback with an impressive lineup that included Lil Baby, Kehlani, J.I.D., T-Pain, and others. In addition, DJ Drama hosted a Gangsta Grillz set with Jeezy, Lil Wayne, and T.I.
Despite collaborating on only two songs together (“In the Morning” from Cole’s first LP Cole World: The Sideline Story in 2011 and “Jodeci (Freestyle)” in 2013), Drake and Cole have maintained a friendly relationship for years.
In fact, Cole’s recent foray into professional basketball may be attributed to Drake. According to Complex, Nicholas “Niko” Carino, co-owner of OVO and a part-owner of the Scarborough Shooting Stars, introduced himself to Cole at a birthday party hosted by Drake. This led to Cole signing with the Canadian Elite Basketball League’s Scarborough Shooting Stars last year.
Carino remarked, “You know, Dreamville and OVO are families. “Drake celebrated his birthday in Los Angeles last year. I heard you have your squad, which was the topic of conversation. It developed naturally from there.
Conclusion
The Dreamville Festival is set to make a comeback on April 1 and 2, 2023 in Raleigh, North Carolina after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s lineup boasts an impressive list of performers including Usher, Ari Lennox, Lil Durk, City Girls, Burna Boy, J.I.D., Summer Walker, and many others. Additionally, fans of J. Cole and Drake will be thrilled to witness their first-ever joint live performance on Sunday. The festival’s reputation for putting together exceptional lineups continues to attract music fans from all corners of the world.
