According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Los Angeles Kings sent Jonathan Quick to the Columbus Blue Jackets late Tuesday, following the Chicago Blackhawks in trading a team icon in Patrick Kane.

The 37-year-old Jonathan Quick was moved by the Kings because they anticipated his impending free agency at the conclusion of the 2022–23 NHL season. Evidently, Quick is not happy with the deal.

“To say Jonathan Quick is unhappy with the trade, I’m told, is ‘an understatement,’” per Seravalli.

In the NHL, Quick is no longer the top goaltender he once was. He has made 31 starts on the ice this season and has a meager record of 11-13-4, 3.5 GA/A, and an 876 save percentage. Jonathan Quick gave up three goals on just seven shots faced in what ended up being his final game in a King’s uniform, a 5-2 road defeat to the New York Rangers on Sunday.

Jonathan Quick was once ranked among the NHL’s most dreaded goalies, but his performance has slipped in recent years.

Los Angeles appears to have found a solution to the Kings’ reported need for goaltending assistance by trading Jonathan Quick away in return for Joonas Korpisalo.

This season, the 28-year-old Korpisalo has a record of 11-11-3, a.317 GAA, and a.911 saves percentage. According to Money Puck, Korpisalo ranks 15th among goalies with at least 25 games played this season in terms of goals above expectations (8.4) and 14th in terms of goals saved above expectations per 60 (0.325). The Kings, who are second in the Pacific Division with 76 points, still have Pheonix Copley as their undeniable No. 1 goalie.
